Pals plan extensive search for missing Lanarkshire mum, Karen Stevenson

Friends of missing Cumbernauld mum Karen Stevenson are to search the town in a desperate hunt to find their pal.

Locals will gather on Sunday morning - three weeks after mum-of-two Karen vanished following a night out - to carry out a large co-ordinated community search.

The 42-year-old was initially last spotted in the early hours of Saturday, February 19, when she left her home on Lairds Hill in Seafar sometime after midnight.

CCTV footage shows Karen walking towards the town centre and Muirfield community centre near Brown Road and Fleming Road around 2.55am.

However, following door-to-door enquiries by her friends, another apparent sighting of Karen came to light last week, some 25 minutes on from the last known sighting, this time walking along McGregor Road.

Cops have carried out extensive searches for Karen over the last few weeks and her family said her disappearance is "completely unusual."

Pal Nicola Masterson appealed for help with the search on social media this week and said: "We are looking for help from as many people as possible from the local community, to help search for Karen.

"We have arranged a large coordinated community search with the blessing of Karen's family. We had been hoping to do this before now, but the police and family had asked us not to for various valid reasons.

"The last known confirmed sighting of Karen was at McGregor Road on February 19 at approximately 3.15/3.30am.

"There has been another possible (unconfirmed) sighting of Karen at the slip road up to Condorrat at approximately 3.45am, which would suggest she has walked down the dual carriageway and taken the slip road up to Condorrat.

"If you are free this Sunday, March 13 at 9am and would like to help with the search then please come along and meet us at Greenfaulds Train Station as close to 9am as possible."

Police have asked that people taking part in the search wear suitable clothing including walking or Wellington boots, or flat comfortable boots, and a high vis or something that makes you visible if possible.

They also ask that people dress accordingly for the weather, wear layers, and hats/gloves and bring a bottle of water or hot flask. Mobile phones should have a full charge and most importantly keep yourself and everyone with you safe.

Karen is described as 5ft 1ins tall, of a slim build with long brown hair.

She was wearing a cream long sleeve t-shit with a graphic design, a purple jacket with a fur lined hood, black leggings and black ankle boots when she was last seen. She may also have been carrying a small pink handbag, with metal studs and a chain strap.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to call the police on 101, using the reference no. 3369 of Saturday, February 19, 2022.
