Palnackie and Colvend Primary pupils hold outdoor jubilee jamboree

Palnackie and Colvend Primary pupils welcomed family and friends to an outdoor jubilee jamboree.

Pupils and staff made games and stalls to entertain the visitors, demonstrating their enterprise skills, including castle building, biscuit decorating and a corgi treasure hunt.

This weekly joint learning venture is supported by Dumfries and Galloway Council, who subsidised the transport costs of bringing these learners together from rural locations.

Meanwhile, an outdoor pre-school group held at Palnackie and Colvend Primaries is attracting new families and helping raise the profile of rural schools in the area.

Run by partnership head teacher Jane Alexander, the new club has been well attended and is bringing young families together again after lockdown.

Mrs Alexander said: “Our partnership works hard to deliver quality learning experiences that promote local links and keep schools at the heart of communities within rural locations.

“With school rolls falling nationally, we need to continually look at new ways to keep our numbers up and my pre-school group is helping us build up pupils of the future.

“The Kirkgunzeon, Colvend and Palnackie partnership is small but mighty and all three schools are most certainly open for business.

“The future is looking bright.”
