After more than four years of retirement, Palmerston, the beloved former chief mouser at the Foreign Office in the UK, has made a triumphant return to public service. The news of his new role as the UK's chief four-legged representative in Bermuda was announced on his official DiploMog social media account.

Palmerston's retirement in the countryside was short-lived as he was adopted by Foreign Office diplomat Andrew Murdoch, who has now been appointed as the governor of Bermuda, a British territory in the mid-Atlantic. In a statement on social media, Palmerston expressed his excitement about his new position, stating that diplomacy and a 'purr-fect' role have lured him out of retirement.

The Foreign Office confirmed that Palmerston will serve as a feline relations consultant (semi-retired) to the new Governor of Bermuda. His duties will include attending important meetings, offering advice when necessary, and of course, indulging in well-deserved naps.

Palmerston, named after the longest-serving British Foreign Secretary, Lord Palmerston, first joined the government in April 2016 as a rescue cat. During his time at the Foreign Office, he was adored by staff and known for his occasional gifts of dead mice. However, his diplomatic relations with Larry, the cat-in-residence at 10 Downing Street, were not always smooth, with occasional street fights between the two feline dignitaries.

Meanwhile, Larry continues to hold the title of 'Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office,' a position he has maintained since 2011, serving under six different prime ministers. As Palmerston settles into his new role in Bermuda, the diplomatic world eagerly awaits the contributions of this seasoned feline diplomat.
