Palmeiras have strongly denied trying to hijack Gustavo Scarpa’s move to Nottingham Forest.
The midfielder has signed a pre-contract agreement with Forest and is set to move to the City Ground in December once the Brazilian season comes to an end.
The 28-year-old joined Palmeiras in 2018 and has racked up 199 appearances, scoring 34 goals and providing 45 assists.

His existing contract at Allianz Parque runs out at the end of the year, but off the back of an impressive season, Brazilian website UOL Esporte reported that Palmeiras were looking into the possibility of paying Scarpa’s pre-contractual fine, thought to be just over £4million.
Negotiations did not proceed any further, they say, because “Scarpa did not want to dishonour the agreement with the English club”.
However, Palmeiras have produced a statement claiming there was no intent on their side to try and break the player’s agreement with Forest.
Their statement read: "Palmeiras vehemently denies having talked to Scarpa or his representatives about alleged amounts for the breach of the pre-contract signed by the athlete with Nottingham Forest-ING.
“The club cultivates a transparent relationship with the player, who already last year, when he was approached to discuss a possible extension of his contract, communicated the direction of the desire to live the experience of playing abroad. Palmeiras respects the wishes of the athlete, who has been an example of professionalism and dedication in his daily work.”
