A Palestinian paramedic who was detained by the Israeli military for three days at Al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza has come forward with disturbing allegations of mistreatment. The paramedic, Mohammad Al Shawwa, claims that he and his colleagues were subjected to degrading and violent treatment during their detention.
According to Al Shawwa, the Israeli army forced them out of the hospital one by one, stripped them naked, and left them seated in the yard. Their hands were tied, and they were blindfolded before being humiliated and beaten. Al Shawwa also reported that the army bulldozed the cemetery in the yard, disturbing the graves of martyrs.
After being told to leave Al-Shifa Hospital, Al Shawwa walked approximately 1.25 miles to Al Ahli Baptist Hospital with other detainees. He expressed concern for his family members who were separated during the ordeal, including his mother, sister, wife, and son. Al Shawwa particularly worries about his 60-year-old father, who he claims was taken by the army. The paramedic is unsure about the well-being of his family members and fears for their safety.
Allegations of mistreatment and abuse by the Israeli Defense Forces have been raised, and inquiries have been made to the IDF regarding Al Shawwa's claims. The situation highlights the ongoing tensions and human rights concerns in the region.
