A Palestinian Authority official has spoken out against US President Donald Trump's recent comments regarding the Gaza Strip. Trump suggested that the United States could potentially take over Gaza with the help of American troops, prompting Palestinians living there to leave.
The official, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Varsen Aghabekian Shaheen, emphasized the history of displacement that Palestinians in Gaza have faced. She highlighted that many Palestinians were made refugees in 1948 and have experienced further displacement due to conflicts with Israel.
Aghabekian Shaheen expressed the strong sentiment among Palestinians in Gaza against any further displacement, stating that they are determined to remain in their homeland. She called for Trump to consider creating a peaceful coexistence with Palestinians in their ancestral land rather than resorting to displacement.
The official also expressed gratitude for the support of countries such as Egypt, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, who have condemned Trump's remarks on Gaza. Aghabekian Shaheen emphasized the importance of regional unity in rejecting such proposals and called for global solidarity in standing against displacement of Palestinians.
She urged for a collective effort to convey the opposition to Trump's plans, hoping that international pressure could lead to a change in tone from the US President. The official's remarks underscore the deep-rooted resistance among Palestinians to any further displacement and their determination to protect their land.
