THE Palestinian ambassador to the UK has backed The National’s campaign to raise money for vital aid in Gaza.
Husam Zomlot gave his support to our Medical Aid for Palestinians fundraiser, which is aiming to raise £50,000 this week.
“The work of Medical Aid for Palestinians is critical in providing essential healthcare for Palestinians in Gaza,” he told The National.
“Especially since Israel has destroyed the entire healthcare system and continues to block humanitarian aid.”
There are fears that the total collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system could collapse and kill more people than the conflict itself – with only 16 of Gaza's 36 hospitals currently operational and just 1822 hospital beds available, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Zomlot added: “This is a timely and much appreciated initiative by The National which underscores the long-standing support and solidarity from the Scottish people for peace and justice in Palestine.”
All money raised by The National goes directly to this important charity, which is on the ground providing urgently needed medical aid and mental health support in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Lebanon.
