Pakistan Police Arrest Imran Khan's Party Spokesman For Propaganda

Former Pakistani PM Imran Khan speaks with Reuters during an intervew, in Lahore

On Monday, Pakistan's police conducted a raid on the political party office of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad. The Interior Ministry confirmed that the raid resulted in the arrest of the party's spokesman for allegedly engaging in anti-state propaganda. Additionally, Ahmad Janjua, the media coordinator for Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, was also taken into custody following a separate raid over the weekend.

The arrests have sparked criticism from Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of PTI, who expressed concern over the recent police actions targeting party members. According to Khan, several other workers from the party's media wing were also arrested in a series of police raids conducted in recent weeks.

Pakistani authorities have frequently accused PTI of orchestrating a campaign against the country's institutions, particularly the military, an allegation vehemently denied by the party. Imran Khan, who faced ousting through a vote of no-confidence in 2022, has been entangled in over 150 legal cases. He has been detained at a prison in Rawalpindi since last year following his arrest.
