Paisley star David Tennant tipped as favourite to return to Doctor Who

Paisley star David Tennant has been tipped as the favourite former Doctor Who to make a return as the Timelord replacing the outgoing Jodie Whittaker.

The Ralston born actor has not confirmed or denied whether he will be taking on his most iconic role yet again after it was announced Jodie Whittaker and showrunner Chris Chibnall will be wrapping up their run on the sci-fi drama very soon, with just one episode remaining.

Still, there’s no word yet on when the final chapter will end, nor who will be the next person to step into the Tardis, with fans divided on whether they’d like to see a Tennant reprisal or someone completely different.

David Tennant is currently the favourite according to bookmakers Coral with, Lydia West odds at 5-2, 5-1 for Omari Douglas, 6-1 for Fisayo Akinade, 8-1 for Rakhee Thakrar, 10-1 for Danny Dyer and 16-1 for Michael Sheen, who stars alongside Tennant in popular Amazon series Good Omens.

Coral’s John Hill said: “David Tennant has not ruled himself out of returning as the next Doctor Who and that has sparked strong support for the actor in our betting on Jodie Whittaker’s replacement.

“Tennant and Lydia West are the two names which punters keep turning to and it is the former who tops the betting now for a return.”

David Tennant, who attended Ralston Primary as a boy, first appeared on the BBC show as Doctor Who in 2005, and played the Tenth Doctor for three seasons - a total of 47 episodes - until 2010.

His portrayal of the much-loved sci-fi character has been extremely popular amongst the Doctor Who fandom.

Tennant received critical acclaim for his complexity and humanity and is considered one of the greatest incarnations of the character.

The BBC went as far as to consider ending the show in 2010, thinking it would fail without Tennant.
