Horrified residents told how mercy crews worked on a Paisley stabbing victim for 30 minutes as he lay bleeding in the street.
The 34-year-old was knifed by a trio of men outside the Jet petrol station on Gleniffer Road in Paisley around 8.20pm on Wednesday night.
Detectives are treating the stabbing as attempted murder.
The victim remains in a serious condition at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Locals told how a bloody trail was left along cars and the road after the terror unfolded in the 'quiet' residential street.
One resident told the Record: "I heard a commotion outside, then I heard sirens and dogs barking.
“I took my dog out for a walk and the whole street was shut down. There were eight police cars and two ambulances.
“The lad was lying on the ground and paramedics seen to him for about half an hour. Then he was taken away in a stretcher.
“You could see blood on the pavement where he was lying. It was quite horrific - I hope he will be okay.”
Police were spotted scouring the bins and gardens of residents who live in the nearby estate.
One neighbour said: “Police told us they were coming in to have a look at our gardens and bins in case there was any evidence.
“There was blood on cars and all over the pavements this morning.”
Another added: “This area is normally really quiet and everyone keeps to themselves so the community is shocked.
“I had officers having a look about my garden."
CID were pictured removing evidence bags from the scene this afternoon while officers carried out door to door inquiries as part of their ongoing investigations.
Police have urged anybody with information to come forward.
The first suspect is described as of medium build. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a dark-coloured top and baseball cap with light-coloured trousers and black trainers.
The second is described as of medium build. He was wearing a black tracksuit with white lines down the sides of the arms and legs. He wore Nike trainers.
The third male is described as of medium build and he was wearing a light grey tracksuit.
Detective Inspector Ian Ross said: “Our inquiries are continuing in the area and we are gathering CCTV footage from in and around the local area to gather more information on the three men responsible for this attempted murder.
"This is a busy area and I would urge anyone who witnessed this attack who has not yet spoken to police to please contact us.
"If anyone has any information that will help our ongoing investigation contact officers through 101 with reference number 3174 of 23 March.
