Pupils enjoyed a shopping trip with £1,000 in their pockets to buy hundreds of new books for their school library.
Three members of the Lochfield Primary School Library Club along with their teacher Rhona Hughes visited Waterstones armed with £1,000 donated from the school’s parent council.
The money was raised from the parent council’s Christmas raffle and the group took the time to buy a range of new books to add to the existing school library stock and replace any well-loved books which were a bit past their best.
There is now an additional range of fun fact books, early readers, graphic novels. picture books and longer chapter books for more experienced readers.
The Paisley pupils were helped by the Renfrewshire Outreach Librarian, Jacquelyn Else-Jack to choose the books. They were also given trolleys from the Waterstones staff at the Silverburn store to collect the hundreds of books.

Miss Hughes said: “Thanks to the Lochfield Parent Council, we now have more books by Scottish authors, more diversity, graphic novels, as well as up to date titles in general fiction.
“We are so lucky that our library is already well stocked and very well used, but we needed to update.
“The support of our Outreach Librarian has been invaluable in helping to select quality titles that will stand the test of time and appeal to all readers.”
And all the books were back at school on the shelves in time to celebrate World Book Day on March 3.
Lochfield Primary head teacher Claire Macgregor Duncan said: “Waterstones were extremely accommodating, providing trolleys to collect the books and a running total, as the children bared the shelves.
“I would like to thank Miss Hughes for all her hard work with the upkeep of the library and the parent council for their unwavering support.
“The library is truly a very special space.”
