Paisley man facing £8,000 vet bill after three-year-old dog paralysed in sudden injury

A Paisley man has been left with a huge bill after having to fork out £8,000 for emergency surgery for his three-year-old dog.

Corey Inglis' French bulldog Milo suddenly took ill, and developed an injury that left him "basically paralysed" and unable to stand or walk. Vets suspect he had ruptured discs and a lesion higher up in his neck area.

Speaking to Glasgow Live, Corey said: "One day he suddenly had an episode and was screaming and crying in discomfort.

"I tried to do some tests, massaging his paws, checking his legs, and there was nothing that indicated something sinister and afterward he was still running fine. That was six weeks ago.

"Progressively, he started making those sounds more and more, but we did the same thing and massaged his paws and he was okay. I just kept checking his paws in case there was something in them.

"On Saturday, I was at work and my partner called me. I cut my day short to go home immediately. Milo wasn't right at all - he was really lethargic and wouldn’t go for a walk or go outside at all."

Corey, a barber, was given 48 hours before vets said he would need to be euthanised if the money was not provided for the £8,000 surgery bill.

Desperate to save his pet, Corey and his partner paid the money but have now been left with a huge bill to pay.

He said: "The vet basically said they were expecting £3000 to £4000 upfront for an MRI scan and £400 for an overnight stay.

"By this week, it was looking at £8,000 in total for the surgery as well."

Corey has now set up a GoFundMe in a bid to raise the funds as Milo faces a long road to recovery, which will also limit Corey's ability to work.

He said: "It took everything I had to swallow my pride and set up the GoFundMe, but it’s my dog, I have to do what I can for him. The response has been overwhelming but we’ve hit a brick wall.

"The surgery has been done and so far, he’s recovering. He’s had food this morning and has been outside but he’s still having to be monitored constantly.

"He’s still got no mobility in his legs. It’s going to be a long road.

"We’ve been left with a big bill at the end of it and we’ll need to take a lot of time off work, so we’re losing the days I work as well, it’s hard to keep up."

He added: "Milo's the best dog - we’ve got six dogs in total but he’s a wee character. He’s a wee boisterous boy but so gentle with kids and other dogs. He doesn’t bark much, he’s a great wee dog."
