A walking football group is kicking off in Paisley to give a health boost to people living in the town.
Roar Connection for Life, a Renfrewshire charity that provides older people with the chance to maintain independence and be socially active, was successful in getting funding to start the group which will start on Friday, September 2 at Paisley’s Powerleague Anchor Grounds.
Gillian Thomson, club and volunteer coordinator at Roar, said: “I originally worked for Glasgow Life and I was aware how popular the walking football groups were within Glasgow.
"They were well attended, whereas in Renfrewshire there are only two walking football groups - St Mirren's and one in Johnstone.

“I decided to apply for some funding within the Seedhill area with walking football in mind and we were successful. We are starting walking football from 11am to 12.30pm and Powerleague has kindly given me a space within their clubhouse to offer tea and coffee.”
The group will have a chance to talk and get to know each other after playing a game.
Gillian added: “We have the aim of bringing more men together as with my experience of developing projects, a high number of women participate whereas we don’t get as many men attending.
"So, I was ideally looking for men to have something else there for them and maybe bring back some memories of them playing football.”
A fee of £3 is all that is required to have some fun, meet new friends and enjoy a cuppa.
