Paisley charity's £23,000 boost as cash grant will help amputees

A Paisley charity received a whopping donation from the Morrisons Foundation as they look to upgrade facilities to be more amputee-friendly.

The Finding Your Feet Foundation were handed a cheque of more than £23,000 – and will utilise the cash to help improve the furniture and make their area more accessible for all users of the charity.

Finding Your Feet (FYF) is a charity that helps amputees get their confidence back after life-changing surgery or limb loss.

Cor Hutton, the founder of the charity, looks to instil belief in the people to make sure that they can do whatever they want in life with no barriers.

Therefore, the charity is looking to make its facilities at St James’ House as good as they can be – and that includes the furniture for users as the current items aren’t suitable for everyone.

Speaking to the Paisley Daily Express, Kerr Ferguson, who is part of the creative and marketing team at FYF, says the space they are improving is vital for amputees to all get-together and spend time socialising in the building.

He also says that although the cost-of-living crisis is “wild”, they are very grateful for the community they have around them.

“The donation that we received from the Morrisons Foundation is absolutely incredible and we cannot thank them enough,” he said. “The area we are looking to upgrade is the hub of the charity where everyone meets, therefore, it is vital that we make it accessible for everyone.

“This is the first time since moving to this building that we can design a room the way we want it. Before, we had to rely on donations and work with what we had but now we have the freedom to expand a little more.

“The cost-of-living crisis that we are experiencing right now is wild as we are doing more than ever with less than ever. The money is such a staggering amount and it is so valuable given the circumstances everyone is in.

“We love being part of the community and we love how they are there for us whilst we are there for them. I just want to say a huge thank you to Sharon at Morrisons and the foundation itself for the cheque as it is massively appreciated.”

Sharon Dennison, Morrisons Anchor Mill community champion, says she is thrilled to be helping out the FYF charity after finding out about the work that they do through a customer at her store.

In the past, Sharon has organised coffee mornings at the Morrisons store she works in and that is how she discovered the work the FYF do.

She said: “We have done a few coffee mornings at the store and the people who come in have been speaking about the wonderful things Finding Your Feet and Cor have done.

“When we went down it was amazing to see all the work that they do for the people in the community, everyone was so welcoming.

“The money that the Morrisons Foundation presented to the charity will definitely be going to good use as they showed us what they were looking to improve.

“I now help them out on a weekly basis after seeing what they were doing by collecting food for donations. It was inspiring to see how much the people involved in the charity wanted to help people.

“This is the second time that I can remember that the Morrisons Foundation has given a cheque to a Paisley charity with the last one being the Accord Hospice.

“The Morrisons Foundation are glad to be helping charities such as the Finding Your Feet one and many others like it.”
