A speed survey is planned for a stretch of road in Paisley next month after concerns were raised about boy racers in the area.
Council officers are set to monitor Foxbar Road next month as they consider whether enhanced safety measures might be needed at the spot.
The road already has some speed bumps, but dangerous driving remains a worry for members of the community.
Paisley Southwest councillor Stephen Burns said Renfrewshire Council is trying to address the problem.
He said: “There’s been a lot of complaints since we came out of the pandemic about speeding.
“We are working with our partners at Police Scotland to try and tackle this issue.
“The council has put additional speed bumps in, but there’s a stretch that doesn’t have them.
“It seems to be boy racers going along the road late at night, often after midnight.
“This behaviour is not acceptable and we will do our best to deal with it.”
When contacted about the scheduled study, the local authority said speed surveys are a crucial component of “improving road safety” in Renfrewshire.
A council spokesperson said: “The Scottish Government’s road safety framework 2030 has set ambitious targets to cut the number of adults killed or seriously injured on the roads by 50 per cent and the number of children killed or seriously injured by 60 per
cent.
“Drivers breaking the speed limit and drivers going too fast for the road conditions are key factors which contribute to road traffic accidents.
“Speed surveys are an important part of improving road safety for local communities.”
Meanwhile, residents who said they “live in fear” of a road in Bridge of Weir will shortly find out if measures to prevent speeding will be put in place there.
A similar survey is due on Kilmacolm Road – the subject of a petition in August – which will be monitored by the council’s road safety team.
