A self-taught Paisley -based nail technician has recently been crowned the country’s “best new talent”.
From a background in hospitality, Jasmine Wilson decided to ditch the town’s pubs and restaurants in June last year and pursue a career she was passionate about.
And now the 28-year-old has had her hard work recognised as she has been awarded a prestigious award at the Hair and Beauty Awards UK.
The Buddie learned her talent by watching videos online before going on to start as an apprentice at a local salon.
Jasmine told the Paisley Daily Express: “I worked in pubs and restaurants all over Paisley where I had worked my way up from bar tender to general manager. After time, I just got bored of it and needed a career I was passionate about and loved which I have finally found.
“I decided to become a nail technician at the end of June 2022.
“I had my very first client on August 4 and it’s been a whirlwind ever since.
“I decided to pursue this career because I genuinely love doing nails. I love the creativity of it and how there’s so much you can do with them.
“At the beginning I was self taught by binge watching YouTube tutorials and videos on Instagram.
“Then in the August, I was hired as an apprentice in a local salon where I was taught the rest of what I needed to know and had my first official client.
“From there, I quickly became self-employed which is when it all took off.”
Jasmine, who has had her work featured in Scratch Magazine – a global nail industry publication – now has a salon in the town’s St James Business Centre alongside two other nail technicians.
She added: “ I work alongside two wonderful nail technicians, Hannah who is ‘The Nail Addict’ and Cara who is ‘CW Beauty’.
“I absolutely adore working with both of them.
“We bring out the best in each other and we all get on so well.
“I love having a place I can call my own with good vibes, a relaxing atmosphere and where I am free to be me and so is everyone else that walks through the door.”
And despite there being a glitzy awards bash for this year’s Hair and Beauty Awards UK, Jasmine wasn’t able to make it along – so instead, watched a live stream and enjoyed a cuppa.
The awards where Jasmine was recognised as the best new talent applaud the visionaries and trailblazers who redefine beauty standards, push boundaries and shape the industry’s future with their unmatched talent and dedication.
On cloud nine with her success, Jasmine added: “I came first in Scotland and the UK.
“I still can’t believe it!
“I entered round about October 2022 where I had to submit pictures and videos of my work and answer a number of questions.
“I was announced as a finalist soon after and my application went to the industry professional judges to decide the winners.
“I couldn’t make it to the awards bash which I’m still absolutely gutted about but my partner, Craig, and I watched it through live stream while I sat in my pjs with a cuppa. I wasn’t expecting it at all!
“It goes to show all of my hard work over the past few months paid off.
“It is the biggest achievements in my life so far.
“I’m still finding it hard to get my head around. It’s been a crazy year but I’m so incredibly grateful and I’m extremely proud of myself.”
