Paisley band The Braes taking music scene by storm as song inspired by town car park

They took inspiration from a Paisley car park but they won’t be happy until they’re hurtling along the highway to rock and roll stardom.

Paisley band The Braes have already hit full throttle with worldwide recognition.

Now watch them go into overdrive on the gig circuit as they zoom in on the Glasgow club scene.

Their Paisley home town is at the heart of The Braes’ music and the band’s debut single has already racked up thousands of plays on a top music streaming site.

The Braes, formed by five St Andrew’s Academy school pals – James Sinclair, guitarist, Aidan McGrath, lead singer, Jack Kidd, guitarist, Logan Gordon, drums, and Alex Boyd, guitarist – have just released Car Park in the Sky.

The song is inspired by Robertson Car Park at Gleniffer Braes – which also spawned the band’s moniker.

The group of 17-year-olds have already performed in front of packed crowds in hometown venues such as The Bungalow and Rocknrollas and are now taking their alternative rock and indie music to Glasgow.

The pals are excited to see what 2023 holds for them as they say the response so far has been “out of this world”.

Speaking to the Paisley Daily Express, guitarist James said: “Playing our first gig at Rocknrollas and all of us being from Paisley was amazing. Even though it was mostly our mates, it was a brilliant night.

“To be able to play live in front of people, and having them come along was something we all loved. I wouldn’t say we were nervous but we all wanted it to go well and prove that we love doing this and can do it.

“Now to have released our first single and have people actively listening to it in their playlists is crazy to us."

Lead singer Aidan added: “Not only are people just listening to it and turning it off they are sticking it in their playlists and playing it over and over. To have only released the single in January and have over 1,000 active monthly listeners is out of this world.”

And speaking of being blown away, James said going back to Rocknrollas for their second gig was “surreal” as people were singing the lyrics back to them during their performance.

It was their love of music that brought the teens together while at school.

And James revealed: “We all knew each other in high school, and we were friends but were never close. But when we all knew we loved playing music and had that love for wanting to create a band that is what brought us all together we’d say.

“Sitting in the studio creating the music and playing for over eight hours to create our first single, you could see that we all loved doing it and were all determined to make the best song we could.

“It all seems complicated when you think about creating music but when we get in the studio it just all comes together for us naturally.

“To be able to do all this at 17 is amazing and something that feels great to have the opportunity to experience when we are young, as not many people get to do that.”

And now the band, who were set to play at Room 2 in Glasgow's Nelson Mandela Place, have released their second single ‘Young’ as they look to build on their early success.

James added: "I think you have to take the risk [when releasing music on Spotify] as people will listen to it and might not like what we have done.

"It was scary when we first looked at the listens. The first single has been played all over the world and at least one in nearly any country you can think of is mind-blowing!”
