A pair of youths smashed the lock on a motorcycle with a hammer on Dublin's quays in order to steak the bike as a desperate passerby tried to stop them.
The shocking incident happened early this morning in the city centre on Custom House Quay. In a video seen by Dublin Live, a gang of youths approached a motorcycle that was locked up close to a railing.
One of the youths approaches the bike with a hammer and begins raining blows down on the motorcycle's front lock as the alarm blares. A brave passerby intervened, trying to draw the youths' attention away from the motorcycle, without success.
"Lads, hey, look at me, stop lads," the passerby called out to the youths who continued to bash the motorcycle's lock.

The culprits then managed to break the lock and pulled the motorcycle free, managing to start it up.
When the passerby once again attempted to stop them running away with the motorcycle, he was threatened with the hammer by one of the yobs.
The youths then fled the scene with the motorcycle.
A Garda spokesman confirmed to Dublin Live that they have launched an investigation. He said: "Gardaí are investigating the unauthorized taking a motorcycle on Custom House Quay, Dublin 1 Wednesday 28 June 2023 at 5.44am.
"Investigations are ongoing."
