Pair robbed in 'unprovoked' attack while walking home in Redland

A pair were allegedly assaulted by an unknown man while walking home in Redland. The man then unsuccessfully tried to steal a wallet before fleeing with a grey Nike bag and Santa Cruz hat.

Avon and Somerset Police say the reported robbery took place in the Redland Road area between 4.30am and 6am on Monday, May 8. The male victim suffered a split lip and bruising.

Investigating officers are now appealing for information on the "unprovoked" attack. They are urging anyone who saw what happened or who has relevant footage to get in touch.

Police have released an image of a man they would like to identify in connection with the reported assault. He is described as mixed race, about 6ft tall, in his early 30s, and wearing a Nike hooded top and jogging bottoms.

Detective Constable Jessica Farrow said: “This was an unprovoked attack on two members of the public, who fortunately did not sustain significant physical injury.

“We are releasing an image of a man who we wish to speak to in connection with our enquiries. He is described as mixed race, about 6ft tall, in his early 30s, and wearing a Nike hooded top and jogging bottoms.

“Anyone who recognises him, witnessed the incident or has relevant footage, please contact us via our website or on 101, quoting reference number 5223106668.”

Gloucestershire Police add: "If you can help, please call 101 and give the call handler the reference number 5223106668, or complete our online appeals form.

"You can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100 per cent anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via their Anonymous Online Form. No personal details are taken, information cannot be traced or recorded and you will not go to court or have to speak to police when contacting Crimestoppers."
