Pair injured man with pole during attack in city street

Two men repeatedly struck a man with a pole in a Plean street and punched and kicked him.

One of the attackers, Sandy Duchart, had also assaulted another man along with a female, injuring both, in a village cul-de-sac some months before on September 6, 2019.

On that occasion Sandy Duchart had repeatedly struck the man on the head and body and repeatedly punched and kicked the woman on the body in Torburn Avenue.

The 26-year-old had originally been accused of striking the man on the head and body with metal poles and bats in the September 6 Torburn Avenue attack. However, his guilty plea to an amended charge - deleting mention of these weapons - had been accepted by the Crown.

He had seized a woman by the hair, forced her to the ground, and repeatedly punched and kicked her on the body – before seizing her by the body and pulling her.

Sandy Duchart had admitted two assault to injury charges on indictment.

And - along with co-accused 23-year-old Callan Duchart - he pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting a second man and injuring him at Gallamuir Drive in Plean on March 15, 2020. Sandy Duchart had been on bail on two separate occasions at the time.

Sandy and Callan Duchart had struck the man repeatedly on the body with a pole during the attack, and repeatedly kicked and punched him to the head and body.

Their addresses had been given in court as Low Moss Prison and Polmont Young Offenders’ Institution respectively.

The indictment had originally included five further male accused, containing 24 charges in total.

However, not guilty pleas had been accepted by the Crown.

When the matter called for sentence at Stirling Sheriff Court last Wednesday, it was deferred until January 11 to call before Sheriff Keith O’Mahony. Bail for both accused was continued.
