Padraig McCrory vs Gustave Tamba: Conlan Boxing win purse bid for EU title fight

Padraig McCrory has promised to keep the knockout train rolling when he challenges Gustave Tamba for the EU super-middleweight title.

It was confirmed on Thursday that Conlan Boxing has won the purse bid to promote the fight.

McCrory made it four knockout wins on the bounce with Saturday's demolition of Marco Antonio Periban at the SSE Arena. He now boasts a perfect record of 14-0 with eight coming by way of stoppage.

The 34-year-old's stock is on the rise, and he even admitted his latest KO antics had attracted a number of new followers on his social media accounts.

"I am living the dream and it's still going," McCrory told Belfast Live.

"Saturday night was unbelievable. I can remember my early fights in the Devenish, and now I am fighting in front of thousands of fans at the SSE Arena.

"I am just enjoying the ride and hopefully there are more big nights ahead. Conlan Boxing have won this purse bid which shows their commitment to me, and they are invested in me.

"They put up a bid on my behalf and it was enough to get the fight. It is for a European title so it is massive for me."

Conlan Boxing announced their purse bid success on Thursday, declaring it as 'big time boxing is back in Ireland'.

The date and venue are still to be confirmed, but McCrory said there are two potential venues for the fight, and both will ensure he has home advantage against EU champion Tamba.

"I know they have talked about a show in Galway, and also Belfast," he said.

"Either way, it will be north or south and I will have the advantage of bringing a lot of fans.

"It will be a great night wherever it is held."

Reflecting on Saturday night's fifth-round stoppage of Periban, McCrory said: "The SSE was probably 75 per cent full for my fight, and every person was singing my name.

"And I put in a very good performance against a very good opponent. So I am very proud of that and it is a night I will never forget.

"After Saturday night my social media blew up with new followers and interest from different outlets and fans. I think people are standing up and taking notice of me now.

"I have four knockouts in a row, and I predict a fifth in my next fight.

"Hopefully the European title fight can happen in October or November. I got some stitches on my eye so it depends how quickly that heals.

"I am just enjoying some down time now and then we will go again."
