Paddy Pimblett sends message to rival Jared Gordon ahead of UFC London return

Paddy Pimblett has sent to a message to his UFC rival Jared Gordon ahead of his return to the octagon next month.

The Liverpudlian was reportedly set to fight Gordon in March.

But it was revealed by Pimblett that talks over a fight between the pair never got going, despite UFC president Dana White's insistence that they had.

The UFC returns London in March and Pimblett is set to star, with White having initially claimed the Scouser would face Gordon after the two had gone back and forth in a war of words.

Pimblett later confirmed that discussions had never got underway and he will fight Mexican Kazula Vargas instead.

This will be Pimbett's second fight since joining the UFC, following his spectacular debut in September with a victory over Luigi Vendramini.

He said on the UFC podcast: “I’m glad I never ended up fighting Jared Gordon because I want a better and bigger contract before I fight people like that."

Pimblett has previously admitted that he wants to face Gordon in the future, with the two building a rivalry after the latter defeated Pimblett's friend and fellow Liverpool fighter Chris Fishgold.

“After he mentioned me, I thought me and Jared Gordon might get matched together," Paddy 'the Baddy' told Michael Bisping's Believe You Me Podcast.

"But as I say, I’ve got no idea, we’ll see what happens. I haven’t even had potential opponents sent over to me yet. I thought I’d have one by now.”

His upcoming fight with Vargas will be on a stacked UFC London card, with Pimblett confirming to the ECHO that he'd like to fight three times this year.

This will be the first time a Fight Night will take place in London for three years - the last time saw a huge night of bouts with a number of ranked fighters in the octagon.

Elsewhere, British fighter heavyweight Tom Aspinall and fellow Merseyside fighter Molly McCann will both appear on the card.
