Paddy McGuinness says he thought he was "fit as f***" until he started 'brutal' exercise after injury

Paddy McGuinness gave a very frank verdict on his new exercise regime as he took a breather. In a video showing the Bolton funnyman lying down, he told fans that had joined a Pilates class and it had turned out tougher than he had imagined.

"I have been brutalised today. Brutalised," he said into the camera on his Instagram Stories. Paddy, 49, explained that he was advised to take up the exercise by his physio after tearing a lat muscle, which covers the width of the middle and lower back, and his shoulder.

"I did it for the first time this morning," he said. And he continued honestly: "Oh god it's brutal. It is brutal. I walked in this room. It was full of women of a certain age. I'm thinking 'this isn't for me.'"

Paddy admitted he thought it would be a 'doddle' but he was proven wrong. "It was so hard," he said. And as for the women in the class: "They were smashing it," he said. "Not a problem."

Whereas Paddy said he was "on my a***". He continued drily: "When you're think you're fit and go to the gym, give pilates a whirl." He asked: "How can sitting down be hard?" and he joked: "Just as you think you're fit as f**k Pilates comes and punches you straight up the neutral spine."

But he told his followers: "I'm going to go again. It's difficult but brilliant." Pilates is an exercise that focuses on balance, posture, strength and flexibility. It concentrates on strengthening the body with emphasis on core strength.

Fans flocked to tell him to 'keep going.' Emz88 said: "People think you need to always be in the gym working your a**e off etc but Pilates does exactly the same thing! Game changer."

Yellowdesk123 said: "Thanks for this Paddy. My husband thinks Pilates is a waste of time. Ill show him this clip." And Egertonelaine commented: "Keep going sweetheart."

scandivi_queen wrote: "I was recommended pilates as well couple of years ago. I had severe lower back pain I was screaming in agony doing the exercises which others found funny. My back pain got better after couple of months Keep doing the pilates...don't give up Paddy."
