Paddy McGuinness gives health update on Top Gear co-star Freddie Flintoff

Paddy McGuinness has thanked Top Gear fans after he gave an update on Freddie Flintoff's health. The former England cricketer and co-star of Paddy suffered a nasty crash on the show's test track last week which led to him being hospitalised, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.

Comedian Paddy was at the track when the incident happened and later took to Instagram to share how Freddie's recovery is going. Addressing his two million followers, Paddy shared a number of snaps of the pair laughing and joking throughout filming, as he penned: "Had so many well wishes and positivity for the big lad these last few days.

"Andrew Flintoff is loved and will be up and at it before you know it! The three of us are back this Sunday with more new Top Gear including a trip to Italy, best family cars and our very own postal service! Obviously we filmed this episode earlier in the year."

Hundreds took to the post to share messages of support for the star. Among them was former professional boxer Tony Bellew, who wrote: "Boss fella! I hope he’s on the mend." While Football Factory actor Tamer Hassan added: "Happy you're on the mend, Andrew! Wishing you a speedy recovery."

Flintoff crashed on the track at Dunsfold Aerodrome in Surrey, with the Health and Safety board is "making enquiries" into events. A HSE spokesperson said: "HSE is aware of this incident and is making inquiries."

A spokesperson for the BBC said of the incident: "Freddie was injured in an accident at the Top Gear test track this morning - with crew medics attending the scene immediately. He has been taken to hospital for further treatment and we will confirm more details in due course."

Freddie's youngest son, Corey, 16, said his dad was "lucky to be alive". It is said to have happened as Freddie told the show's cameras what he thought of the car he was driving. Despite speculation, sources say his injuries were not life threatening.
