Paddington crash: Two critical after car crashes following police chase

Two people have been left fighting for their lives after a car crashed during a police chase in west London.

A driver failed to stop for officers in a marked Met Police vehicle at around 4.20am on Saturday near Westbourne Terrace in Paddington.

Shocking pictures show how, after a short pursuit, the car went over a barrier and became stuck over the pavement.

A man and woman in their 20s who were in the car during the collision were both taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, the Met Police said.

The woman has also suffered life-changing injuries, the force added. The pair continue to receive treatment in hospital.

An investigation has now been launched by the police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

An IOPC spokesperson told the Standard: “After being notified by the [Met Police] we sent investigators to the scene and to the police post incident procedure where the officers involved provided their initial accounts.

“We have requested further information from the force and once received, we will determine what further action may be required from us.”

Anyone with information that could assist police is asked to call 101 or post @MetCC quoting reference CAD 1279/5April, or to contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
