Green Bay Packers receiver Allen Lazard will miss another practice on Wednesday, and now we know why.
The veteran pass-catcher suffered an unfortunate injury last week, complicating his availability for the season opener on Sunday.
“He will not be practicing today. He got stepped on last week. That’s where we’re at with him,” coach Matt LaFleur said Wednesday.
Lazard missed practice last Wednesday and on Monday but was working with the rehab group off to the side. He is likely trending toward a questionable labeling for Sunday.
The Packers will provide the first injury report of the regular season on Wednesday. Expect to see Lazard with some kind of foot or ankle injury.
LaFleur’s team will face the Minnesota Vikings in Week 1 on Sunday afternoon at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Lazard is expected to be a starting receiver for Aaron Rodgers and the Packers this season. In fact, there’s a good chance he’ll be the passing game’s No. 1 option, given his experience in the offense, late surge in performance to end 2021 and chemistry with Rodgers.
If Lazard can’t go in the season opener, the Packers would likely need more snaps and production from rookies Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs.
The Packers listed Lazard, Randall Cobb and Sammy Watkins as the team’s three starting receivers on the first “unofficial” depth chart of the regular season.
