Complimentary football from the Packers. After a great punt and a quick stop on defense delivered great field position, the Packers offense drove 42 yards in seven plays to score the game’s first points. Allen Lazard moved the sticks with catches of 11 yards and 12 yards, and Aaron Jones delivered a spinning 7-yard run and a hard-fought 4-yard touchdown catch on a well-designed screen play. Aaron Rodgers completed all four of his passes on the drive.

After another quick stop (three-and-out) from the Packers defense, punt returner Amari Rodgers muffed the ensuing punt and the Commanders recovered at the 17-yard line. It is Rodgers’ fifth career fumble in only 23 games, and his third already this season. The Packers need a new punt returner.
Packers 7, Commanders 3: Joey Slye 21-yard FG
The Commanders turned Amari Rodgers’ fumble in to three points. After getting one first down (on an 8-yard run by Curtis Samuel), Washington stalled on three consecutive plays from inside the 10-yard line and settled for a field goal. Jaire Alexander made a run stop on first down, and Eric Stokes was in coverage on the 3rd-and-goal incompletion.

De’Vondre Campbell scored his first career touchdown on an interception return for a score against Taylor Heinicke, who was under pressure by both Rashan Gary and Kenny Clark on 3rd-and-5. Campbell made an impressive out-stretched catch and then rumbled for the score. The interception was the fifth takeaway of the season for the Packers.

The Commanders drove 83 yards in 12 plays to cut the deficit to four points with 7:21 left in the first half. The pivotal play was Matt LaFleur’s challenge on a 24-yard run that the Packers believed involved a fumble. The ruling was upheld after a lengthy review, and the Commanders scored three plays later on Taylor Heinicke’s touchdown pass to Gibson, who made an acrobatic catch on the backline of the end zone.
Commanders 17, Packers 14: Terry McLaurin 37-yard TD
The Commanders have their first lead to open the second half. Taylor Heinicke’s 37-yard touchdown pass to Terry McLaurin (beating the coverage of Jaire Alexander) finished off a five-play, 74-yard drive. A penalty on Kenny Clark and a 16-yard run from Curtis Samuel sparked the drive. The Packers once led 14-3.
Commanders 20, Packers 14: Joey Syle 31-yard FG
The Commanders have scored 17 straight points. The 16-play, 72-yard drive took up almost nine minutes of game time. The Packers have 15:08 left to get this turned around or this will end in a three-game losing streak.
Commanders 23, Packers 14: Joey Slye 19-yard FG
The run continues. Washington has now scored 20 straight points to open up a two-score lead with under eight minutes to go. The Commanders stopped the Packers on downs and then drove 61 yards to set up the field goal. A 26-yard connection to Curtis Samuel (and resulting 15-yard penalty on Eric Stokes) was the big play.

The Packers have life. A 75-yard scoring drive, which featured three penalties on Washington’s defense, ended with Aaron Jones making a leaping catch of Aaron Rodgers’ throw on an off-schedule play for the score. There’s 3:26 left. The Packers will need a stop and a field goal to escape to Washington with a win. Can the defense provide the first half of the equation?
