After two days of padded practices on Monday and Tuesday and an off day on Wednesday, the Green Bay Packers will be back on the practice field on Thursday for the final open practice before Family Night on Saturday night at Lambeau Field.
So, what will Day 7 bring for Matt LaFleur’s team?
Here’s everything to know from Thursday, Aug. 3, the seventh training camp practice of 2023:
What to know from Matt LaFleur's pre-practice press conference
— On starting center battle: Looking for consistency, level of play. Calls it a “key” position. Says Josh Myers has done a nice job, but needs more consistency.
— On playing Zach Tom at two positions: Challenge to get him reps at center and right tackle. Joint practices and preseason will be pivotal.
— On running back battle: Planning to have a “feature back” for each preseason game. Lots of variables go into the third back role. Need value on special teams.
— Planning on getting through all the installs this week.
— T.J. Slaton, Jonathan Ford have “upped their game” this camp. Makes it tough on the center competition.
— Packers have a lot of talent on defense, it’s on the coaching staff to evolve and get the best of the talent. Did self-scouting during offseason.
— Packers offense will have another tough competition period on Thursday. Call it periods.
— Says they have a “few wrinkles” for Family Night on Saturday night. Good experience for players before preseason games.
— Wants better tempo from Jordan Love’s offense. “We’ve been a little bit sluggish out of the huddle.”
Practice news, updates
— Rookie Anders Carlson warming up, hitting from 60 with plenty of leg. Can he begin to find consistency? Eight misses the last two practices.
— Zach Tom at right tackle, Josh Myers at center to open.
— More good reps from Sean Rhyan in one-on-ones. Is he turning the corner after a lost rookie year?
— Carlson missed his first field goal attempt but connected on next two. Same on the next set; starts 4-for-6.
— Tyler Davis is getting first-team reps with Josiah Deguara (calf) out.
— The offense gets a much-needed win in the competitive period.
— First-team reps for Jonathan Owens at safety on Thursday.
— Rookie Sean Clifford led a touchdown drive in the two-minute drill.
— For the first time all training camp, the offense gets the win, and the defense does up downs.
