Packers training camp report: Live updates from Practice No. 1

The Green Bay Packers are kicking off training camp in 2023 with an open practice at Ray Nitschke Field on Wednesday.

Let the preparation for the 2023 season officially begin for Matt LaFleur’s team, which is coming off a disappointing 8-9 season and now beginning the Jordan Love era at quarterback.

Here’s everything to know from Wednesday, July 26, the first training camp practice of 2023:

What to know from Matt LaFleur's press conference

— LaFleur said the Packers will practice outside despite morning rain/storms in Green Bay.

— On No. 2 quarterback battle: “Who can go out there and continue to move our offense down the field and score points?”

— On David Bakhtiari’s practice schedule: He’ll have modified schedule. Fluid situation. “We know what type of player he is, he’s proved himself.” Likely to be very limited on Thursday following first practice.

— Says he has a “better vision” of what he wants in football team now compared to his first training camp practice of 2019.

— Wants his players attacking training camp with the right mindset. Expecting it to be tough, but attacking tough situations provides growth opportunities.

— On Grant DuBose on NFI list: Concern for young guys missing reps. Anticipates him coming back during camp. Mentions Christian Watson’s training camp timeline last year. Said DuBose is working through a back injury.

— Jordan Love continued the tradition of riding bikes to training camp practices.

— Potential position change? Jonathan Garvin, previously an edge rusher, was working with the defensive line during individual periods, per Ryan Wood.

— Here’s Love to Romeo Doubs, from Wes Hodkiewicz.

— Zach Tom got the first No. 1 reps at right tackle, while Justin Hollins was a starter at outside linebacker and Rudy Ford a starter at safety.

— Rookie Anders Carlson makes 2-of-3 field goals to start on a windy day, per Paul Bretl. He later went 3-for-3, making him 5-for-6 to open camp.

— Practice ends with Love completion to Samori Toure, per Bill Huber.

— Per Rob Demovsky, Love was 7-of-14 passing but wind was a factor. Good in the intermediate areas.

Injury updates

— From Paul Bretl: Rookie tight end Camren McDonald, who was placed on the non-football injury list last week, is practicing on Wednesday, suggesting he’s passed his physical.

— Ryan Wood has the full list of players missing practice on Wednesday: Tarvarius Moore (illness), Caleb Jones (illness), Tariq Carpenter (illness), Grant DuBose (back), Rashan Gary (ACL), Eric Stokes (foot).
