Packers to interview Bills LB coach Bobby Babich for defensive coordinator job

The Green Bay Packers will interview current Buffalo Bills linebacker coach Bobby Babich for the team’s open defensive coordinator job, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Babich recently interviewed with the New York Giants for their defensive coordinator opening.

Babich, 40, has been an assistant coach with the Bills since the 2017 season and has previous NFL experience with both the Carolina Panthers and Cleveland Browns. He is the son of Bob Babich, who was the head coach at North Dakota State and the defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars.

Babich was the Bills assistant defensive backs coach in 2017, the safeties coach from 2018 to 2021 and the linebackers coach from 2022 to 2023. His last seven seasons in Buffalo have all been on the staff of head coach Sean McDermott. Working directly under Babich, Bills linebacker Matt Milano was named a first-team All-Pro in 2022 and Bills safeties Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde were All-Pros in 2021.

While an assistant defensive backs coach in Cleveland, Babich worked directly with Pro Bowlers Joe Haden and T.J. Ward.

The 2023 Bills defense finished fourth in points allowed and ninth in yards allowed. Babich led a linebackers group that lost Tremaine Edmunds to free agency and Milano to a season-ending injury after five games, forcing the Bills to rely on the likes of Terrel Bernard and Tyrel Dodson at linebackers.
