Packers sign DL Kenny Clark to 3-year, $64M extension

On reporting day to training camp for veterans, the Green Bay Packers and three-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Kenny Clark agreed to a three-year, $64 million extension, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Per Rapoport, the deal will pay Clark $29 million in 2024 — almost doubling his pay this year.

Clark’s previous deal was set to enter the final year in 2024. If the extension adds on three years to his old deal, Clark will be under contract in Green Bay through the 2027 season.

According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Clark will get a $17.5 million signing bonus.

Clark, a first-round pick of the Packers in 2016 and the longest tenured player on the team’s roster, made his third Pro Bowl during the 2023 season. He produced a career-high 7.5 sacks and 16 quarterback hits, plus nine tackles for loss and two forced fumbles. According to Pro Football Focus, Clark led the Packers and ranked sixth among NFL defensive lineman with 66 total pressures in 2023.

The deal will be the third signed by Clark with the Packers. His previous deal was for four years and $70 million. While drafted in 2016, Clark is still only 28 years old and doesn’t turn 29 until October.

At three years and $64 million, Clark’s new deal averages $21.3 million per year. That number would put him just outside the top 10 among interior defensive linemen in average per year.

Clark’s extension likely lays the groundwork for the Packers to complete a new deal for quarterback Jordan Love, who reported to training camp on Sunday. Love is also entering the final year of his current deal, but a lucrative new deal is right around the corner for another one of the Packers’ franchise centerpieces.
