Packers see QB Jordan Love as ‘day to day’ with knee injury

Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur continues to say Jordan Love has a chance to play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts despite a left knee injury that has kept him out of practice on Wednesday and Thursday.

“He’s going to do everything he can to get out there, and we’ll give him the week,” LaFleur said Thursday.

Is this posturing from the Packers? Or does Love have a legitimate chance of playing?

Love, who sprained his MCL in the season opener, was the only player on the Packers roster unable to practice on Wednesday and Thursday this week. But LaFleur said earlier in the week that Love — now in his second year as a starter — wouldn’t need to practice to play Sunday against the Colts.

Love still hasn’t been medically cleared to return. The team would need to have confidence in the medical opinion of the injury and Love’s confidence to play and protect himself to allow their $220 million quarterback back on the field.

In a sit down with Larry McCarren of team’s official site, LaFleur described Love’s injury as “day to day,” giving more credence to the possibility of Love making a soon-than-expected return.

“I’d say it’s more day to day than anything,” LaFleur said. “He’s going to continue to do everything he can to get back on the field as soon as possible. And we have great resources around here.”

Malik Willis will start at quarterback if Love isn’t cleared to play before Sunday. However, it’s looking increasingly possible that Love’s absence will be short lived. After Sunday against the Colts, the Packers go to Tennessee to play the Titans in Week 3 and host the Minnesota Vikings in Week 4.

The Packers will release a final injury report with status designations on Friday, so more information is coming soon.
