The Green Bay Packers can eliminate the defending champion Los Angeles Rams from playoff contention and ensure the team’s trip to Miami on Christmas Day still means something with a win over the Rams on “Monday Night Football” from Lambeau Field.
The Packers can also take one giant step towards their own playoff elimination by losing as a home favorite to the Rams in primetime.
For all intents and purposes, Monday night’s showdown between the Packers and Rams is an elimination game.
At 4-9, the Rams are all but dead. Nothing will save this team, but a loss to the Packers would officially end it mathematically.
At 5-8, the Packers are hanging on by a thread, but Matt LaFleur’s team isn’t dead and can actually make things quite interesting with a 4-0 finish to the season.
Then again, the Packers are also living dangerously close to the edge. All it would take to eliminate the Packers from playoff contention before Christmas Day is a loss to the Rams and a Washington Commanders win over the San Francisco 49ers on Christmas Eve. With just two results, the Packers would have nothing to play for come Christmas in Miami.
It’s hard to believe it’s come to this. The Rams won the Super Bowl last season. The Packers were the No. 1 seed in the NFC. Two seasons ago, the Packers hosted the Rams in the NFC Divisional Round. Entering the final game of Week 15 in 2022, the two teams have a combined nine wins and 17 losses.
Are you ready for some football? A Monday night party? It’s Packers and Rams in an elimination game from Lambeau!
