Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love was not on the practice field to start on-field prep for the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, according to Mike Spofford of the team’s official site.
Love was one of seven players not practicing on Wednesday.
Per Rob Demovsky of ESPN, Love rode the exercise bike during team stretch inside the Don Hutson Center and did not go outside with the team for practice.
Coach Matt LaFleur said the Packers will give Love the week to get physically ready to play.
“Just take it one day at a time and see where he’s at at the end of the week,” LaFleur said post-practice on Wednesday. “He wants to play, but we’ll see where he’s at by the end of the week.”
LaFleue wasn’t sure if Love would practice Thursday.
Love is dealing with what is considered to be a minor groin strain. He suffered the injury during the first quarter of Sunday’s win over the Jacksonville Jaguars and eventually exited the game in the third quarter.
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Love is expected to get treatment for the injury all week and will likely be a game-time decision come Sunday, although he is “determined” to play against the Lions.
The Packers will put out an initial injury report on Wednesday, while the final injury report with playing status designations arrives Friday afternoon.
LaFleur and the Packers may have to decide between Love starting the game at less than 100 percent or sitting him in a big divisional game while providing a real chance to get fully healthy during the Week 10 bye. The Packers play the Chicago Bears on Sunday, Nov. 17, which would give Love three full weeks to recover.
The Packers are 6-2 through eight games, while the Lions are 6-1. The winner Sunday will assume first place in the NFC North.
Love missed two games with an MCL sprain earlier this season. Backup quarterback Malik Willis helped the Packers win both games, and he also came on for Love last Sunday and executed a game-winning drive. If Love can’t go, Sean Clifford would be the expected backup behind Willis as a practice squad elevation.
