Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love can be counted among those believing a big year is ahead for second-year receiver Dontayvion Wicks in 2024.
Asked who could be a breakout player for the Packers during an AMA video at Bleacher Report, Love picked Wicks — the dynamic receiver who flashed big-time ability as a rookie.
“I think Dontayvion Wicks is going to have a monster year this year,” Love said. “He was able to do a lot of phenomenal things last year. I think the sky is the limit for him. His confidence keeps getting more and more, and obviously the more reps he gets, the more comfortable he gets in the system, and just playing fast.”
A fifth-round pick of the Packers last year, Wicks burst onto the scene as a rookie, catching 39 passes for 581 yards and four touchdowns. He added two more catches and a touchdown during the postseason.
During the regular season, Wicks caught 67.2 percent of his targets and averaged 14.9 yards per catch and 10.0 yards per target. He also averaged over 2.0 yards per route run.
A savvy route runner with explosive quickness and run-after-the-catch ability, Wicks consistently got open for Love in Matt LaFleur’s passing offense as a rookie. With a second-year leap, Wicks could emerge as one of the top targets in one of the NFL’s best passing games in 2024.
Love also mentioned do-it-all receiver Jayden Reed as another potential breakout candidate for the Packers in 2024.
“Both of those guys, rookies last year, did some awesome things. I think those are two guys that are going to ball out this year and take the league by storm.”
