Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is considered to be day to day with a groin strain, but he wants to play Sunday and he won’t need to be 100 percent to start the showdown with the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field.
Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Love is “determined to play” despite the injury, and Rapoport thinks Love has a “really good chance” to play Sunday.
“It’s just a groin strain,” Rapoport said Wednesday. “This is going to be a matter of doing rehab, getting treatment, working right up until game time, just seeing if he’s good enough to play. He is determined to play. He does not need to be 100 percent to play. That makes me believe that he’s got a really good chance.”
Love injured his groin early on in the Packers’ win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. He played through the injury for two quarters but eventually exited the game early in the third quarter.
The Packers will practice Wednesday, and Rapoport wasn’t sure if Love would be participating or not to start the week. It’s possible he’ll be held out of practice to let the groin heal and give Love the best chance to play Sunday.
Malik Willis, who is 2-0 as the starter, would start if Love can’t go against the Lions.
If Love’s knee injury earlier this season is any indication, expect the Packers quarterback to be a game-time decision, with limited practice availability this week and a likely “questionable” listing on the final injury report on Friday. And don’t expect coach Matt LaFleur to divulge any important details on his status this week.
The Packers have a bye in Week 10, so barring a setback, Love should be close to 100 percent when Green Bay faces the Chicago Bears coming out of the bye in Week 11.
