Packers practice: 8 players not participating to start on-field prep for Bears

The Green Bay Packers were without eight different players to start on-field preparation for the Chicago Bears on Wednesday.

Linebacker Quay Walker, receiver Christian Watson, cornerback Jaire Alexander, safety Evan Williams, safety Zayne Anderson, defensive end Brenton Cox, offensive tackle Andre Dillard and guard Elgton Jenkins were not participating to start Wednesday’s practice, per Mike Spofford of the team’s official site.

Walker (ankle), Watson (knee), Alexander (knee), Williams (quad) and Dillard (concussion) all missed last week’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings. Anderson left the loss with a concussion. Cox has a new injury.

Per Spofford, defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt — who also departed for concussion evaluation last Sunday — was on the field on Wednesday.

Walker, Alexander and Williams — three starters on defense — have missed multiple games and could be in danger of missing Sunday’s season finale. It’s possible the Packers will want Walker and Williams to sit again Sunday to be healthy for the NFC Wild Card Round. The Packers aren’t sure if Alexander will play again this season.

Watson has a bone bruise on his knee and was listed as questionable last week. Like the defensive starters, the Packers may want Watson to get his knee healthy before the start of the postseason.

The Packers host the Bears at Lambeau Field on Sunday at noon. The week’s first injury report will arrive later on Wednesday.
