Packers missing 7 starters at practice as preparations begin for Lions

The Green Bay Packers returned to the practice field on Wednesday but were minus some key starters, who were not on the field during the portion open to the media.

According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic, there were seven players working off to the side in the rehab area:

QB Jordan Love
RB Josh Jacobs
CB Jaire Alexander
LG Elgton Jenkins
S Evan Williams
C Josh Myers
LT Rasheed Walker

Coach Matt LaFleur confirmed all seven did not participate on Wednesday.

As expected, Malik Willis taking reps with the starting offense in Love’s absence. However, Love is reportedly “determined to play” in this week’s game against the Detroit Lions, despite being day to day with a groin injury.

“He’s moving around better,” LaFleur said Wednesday. “We’ll push the envelope with that. I know he wants to play. We’ll see where he’s at at the end of the week.”

After practice, LaFleur confirmed Jacobs is dealing with an ankle injury he suffered on Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jacobs left the field during last Sunday’s game-winning drive and was unable to return. However, the expectation is for him to be good to go this week.

Both Alexander and Williams also reportedly avoided serious injuries in last week’s win over Jacksonville, though their statuses for Week 9 are still up in the air.

As for Jenkins, Myers, and Walker, the trio could just be getting a rest day after playing 100 percent of the offensive snaps on Sunday. However, that is something to monitor when the Packers release the first injury report later Wednesday.

In positive injury news, linebacker Quay Walker has cleared protocol and is expected to play this week after missing one game.
