Saquon Barkley fumbled without being tackled, Jordan Love threw a go-ahead touchdown pass, Tommy DeVito led a late scoring drive and the New York Giants escaped a chaotic finish with a 24-22 win over the Green Bay Packers on Monday night at MetLife Stadium.
The Packers (6-7) turned the ball over three times and gave up 209 yards rushing while snapping a three-game win streak. The Giants improved to 5-8 with a third-consecutive victory.
“They out-coached us, out-played us,” coach Matt LaFleur said.
Love lost a fumble and threw an interception in the first half but the Packers went into the break with a 10-7 lead. The Giants responded with a pair of touchdown drives in the third quarter to take a 21-13 lead into the final 15 minutes.
The Giants had a chance to ice the game with under four minutes to go but Barkley fumbled at the end of a 34-yard run while falling to the turf. Carrington Valentine picked up the fumble and returned it 50 yards, setting up Love’s go-ahead touchdown pass to Malik Heath with 1:33 left.
DeVito, a rookie third-string quarterback, led the Giants 57 yards to set up Randy Bullock’s game-winning 37-yard field goal as time expired.
DeVito completed 17 passes without throwing an interception or taking a sack, and he rushed for 71 yards. Barkley finished with 101 total yards and two scores.
Jayden Reed gave the Packers a 7-0 lead with a 16-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.
Cornerback Keisean Nixon not only fumbled away a punt return but gave up a key explosive play on the Giants’ game-winning drive.
The Packers return home to face the NFC South-leading Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 15.
