The Green Bay Packers listed receiver Jayden Reed as questionable to play Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts due to a new calf/shin injury.
Reed is one of three players listed by the Packers as questionable on the final injury report, joining quarterback Jordan Love (knee) and running back MarShawn Lloyd (hamstring). Game statuses for the three players will gain clarity when the Packers announce inactive players roughly 90 minutes before kickoff on Sunday.
Reed, a second-round pick of the Packers in 2023, led the NFL in receiving yards in Week 1. He caught four passes for 138 yards, including a 70-yard touchdown. He added a 33-yard rushing touchdown, giving him 171 total yards on just five touches. Last year, Reed led the Packers in catches and total touchdowns.
Injuries late in the week can be game-plan killers. Regardless of who is playing quarterback, the Packers probably have a lot of plays designed and ready to dial up for Reed against the Colts. With a questionable designation, Reed may not be available to Matt LaFleur and the Packers on Sunday.
If Reed can’t go, the Packers would likely give more snaps at receiver to Dontayvion Wicks and Bo Melton, and Malik Heath would have a good chance of being active for the first time this season. The Packers could also use more 12 personnel — featuring two tight ends — and get Luke Musgrave on the field more. Musgrave can operate as a big slot.
Reed’s status would be even more crucial if Love can’t play and Malik Willis starts. Reed is a dynamic and versatile playmaker who would make life much easier for Willis, who has only three career starts.
Last season, Reed missed one game to injury. He was questionable to play against the Carolina Panthers with a toe injury and was inactive. Twice, Reed was questionable and ended up playing (vs. Chiefs, vs. Bears).
