The Green Bay Packers are interviewing Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers for the team’s open defensive line coach job on Tuesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
This is the second known interview for the job since the Packers fired Jason Rebrovich last week. The team has also interviewed New York Jets defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton.
Per Rapoport, Rodgers is a coaching free agent after six seasons with the Buccaneers. He has been the team’s run game coordinator over the last three seasons.
Before Tampa Bay, Rodgers was the defensive coordinator for the New York Jets under Todd Bowles between 2015-18, the defensive line coach for the Miami Dolphins between 2008-14 and the defensive line for the Dallas Cowboys between 2005-07, giving him vast experience coaching the position group and leading defensive players.
Among the players coached by Rodgers are La’Roi Glover, Cameron Wake, Randy Starks, Paul Soliai, Leonard Williams, Muhammad Wilkerson, Vita Vea, Ndamukong Suh, William Gholston and Calijah Kancey.
In 2020, Rodgers was named the John Teerlinck Defensive Line Coach of the Year after helping the Buccaneers win the Super Bowl.
The Packers are hoping to get better up front on defense in 2025. The four-man pass-rush wasn’t good enough in 2024 despite the Packers having first-round picks such as Rashan Gary, Kenny Clark, Devonte Wyatt and Lukas Van Ness along the defensive line. The next defensive line coach in Green Bay must find a way to maximize the talent assembled up front.
