The Green Bay Packers got a fourth-down stop and had just 57 yards to go with two minutes left to save the season on Sunday at Ford Field.
Instead of heroics, Aaron Rodgers threw four-straight incompletions from the 17-yard line to cement the Packers’ fifth-straight loss and send Matt LaFleur’s team spiraling to a 3-6 record after nine games.
The Lions led 8-0 at halftime, answered the Packers’ only touchdown with a scoring drive of their own and then stopped Rodgers with the game on the line.
Dan Campbell’s team snapped a five-game losing streak.
The Packers had three turnovers, including two interceptions in the end zone, finished 0-for-4 in the red zone and 1-for-4 on fourth down and committed eight penalties during another disappointing performance.
LaFleur’s team didn’t score until midway through the third quarter in large part because Rodgers threw interceptions in the end zone to end the offense’s first and second drives. He later threw a third interception inside the red zone.
Salt in the wound: The Packers lost receiver Romeo Doubs, cornerback Eric Stokes, left tackle David Bakhtiari, running back Aaron Jones, receiver Christian Watson, outside linebacker Rashan Gary and linebacker Krys Barnes to injuries.
The Packers play the surging Dallas Cowboys – who are coming off a bye – next week at Lambeau Field. It will be Mike McCarthy’s return to Green Bay.
