Packers extend lead over 49ers with first 50-yard FG of 2024 season

It took 12 weeks, but the Green Bay Packers have finally attempted a field goal of 50 or more yards. The last team in the NFL to attempt one entering Week 12, the Packers got a 51-yard field goal from Brandon McManus late in the first quarter to extend the team’s lead to 10-0 over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Packers had attempted 11 field goals of at least 40 yards but none of at least 50. The other 31 NFL teams had attempted at least one 50-yarder through 11 weeks.

While not a perfect kick, McManus was able to sneak his 51-yard attempt inside the right upright to put the Packers up double digits on Sunday at Lambeau Field.

McManus, a veteran addition who took over after rookie Brayden Narveson struggled early, is now 7-for-8 on field goals and a perfect 9-for-9 on extra points.

Last season, rookie Anders Carlson was 3-of-5 on field goals of 50 or more yards.

The Packers took a 7-0 lead over the 49ers on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Jordan Love to Tucker Kraft on the opening possession.
