Packers defensive assistant leaving to join Anthony Campanile and Jaguars

The Green Bay Packers have lost another defensive assistant coach. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, defensive quality control coach Anthony Perkins has been hired as the new secondary coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Perkins, 36, spent just one season in Green Bay. Before joining the Packers, he coached at the collegiate level for five years, most recently as the cornerbacks coach at Oregon State after holding the same role at Colorado State.

Perkins is set to join a Jacksonville defensive staff led by Anthony Campanile, who was hired last week as the Jaguars’ defensive coordinator. Campanile, like Perkins, spent just one season with the Packers in 2024.

It’s no surprise that Green Bay defensive assistants are being poached after the unit’s success this season. The Packers finished sixth in total defense, sixth in scoring defense, fifth in yards per play, and fourth in takeaways.

Matt LaFleur and Jeff Hafley will need to work hand in hand to find the right replacements for Perkins and Campanile to keep this ascending defense on the right track heading into next season.
