The Packers’ win over the Chiefs on Sunday Night Football did not come without controversy. Unfortunately, the officials became a storyline once again, and Green Bay linebacker De’Vondre Campbell couldn’t help but gloat after the game.
“They tried to do everything they could to make sure the Chiefs won but guess what PACKERS WIN AGAIN,” he wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, after the Packers’ 27–19 win.
Campbell likely is referring to a crucial unnecessary roughness penalty called on Green Bay safety Jonathan Owens when he hit Patrick Mahomes in the last minute of the game while the Chiefs quarterback was near the sideline—but still in bounds.

There was nothing unnecessary about the hit, as Owens hit Mahomes with his shoulder, but officials apparently threw a flag because Mahomes was so close to the sideline when it happened. The fact of the matter is Mahomes was fighting for a first down, though, and didn’t get out of bounds before the contact.

Kansas City fans also were upset with the officials for what appeared to be a missed defensive passed interference call moments later when Marquez Valdes-Scantling was grabbed by Packers cornerback Carrington Valentine well before the ball arrived on a deep pass attempt.
