Packers CB Jaire Alexander (groin) inactive vs. Patriots

Green Bay Packers cornerback Jaire Alexander will miss a game due to the groin injury he suffered last Sunday in Tampa Bay. The Packers included Alexander among the team’s five inactive players for Sunday’s Week 4 tilt against the New England Patriots.

Alexander originally suffered the injury on the sixth play from scrimmage against the Buccaneers. He didn’t play the rest of the way, and the Packers will now hold him out a week even after he practiced in a limited capacity on Wednesday and Friday.

Alexander was labeled as questionable to play on the final injury report of the week.

Without Alexander, Rasul Douglas and Eric Stokes will start on the perimeter at cornerback in the base defense with Keisean Nixon – who played 57 snaps on defense last week – serving as the expected slot corner in nickel.

Kiondre Thomas was elevated from the practice squad on Saturday to provide extra depth at cornerback.

The Packers will hope a few extra days of rest and rehab will give Alexander a chance to play next week against the New York Giants in London.

It might be a good week to be without the All-Pro cornerback. The Patriots don’t have starting quarterback Mac Jones or receiver Jakobi Meyers, severely handicapping New England’s passing game. The Packers should match up fine with Douglas and Stokes at corner.

Alexander, who signed the most lucrative contract ever by a cornerback this offseason, missed 13 regular-season games with a shoulder injury last year. He had eight tackles and an interception in the first two weeks of 2022.
