Packers block field goal as time expires, escape with dramatic win over Bears

The Green Bay Packers blocked a field goal attempt as time expired and escaped Soldier Field with a dramatic 20-19 win over the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

After rookie quarterback Caleb Williams drove the Bears into field goal range with three seconds to go, Cairo Santos lined up a 46-yard field goal with the Bears trailing by one and a chance for a walk-off win. But Packers defensive lineman Karl Brooks had other plans, penetrating inside and blocking the attempt with no time remaining to preserve a 20-19 victory.

Jordan Love gave the Packers a one-point lead after he hit Christian Watson for a 60-yard gain and then plunged into the end zone from 1-yard out with 2:59 to go in the fourth quarter.

Williams did all he could to respond late. After taking back-to-back sacks, Williams connected with rookie Rome Odunze on back-to-back completions to move the sticks, and his 13-yard completion to Keenan Allen got the Bears into field goal range.

The Packers have now won 11 straight games over the Bears dating back to 2019, the longest ever streak by one team in the NFL’s longest-running rivalry.

The win improved the Packers’ record to 7-3 after 10 games. The Bears, meanwhile, lost a fourth straight game and dropped to 4-6.
