Packers attempting to bring back veteran free agent S Adrian Amos in 2023

The Green Bay Packers are attempting to bring back free agent Adrian Amos, but the veteran safety is expected to hit the open market, according to Bill Huber of SI.com.

The report is the first known information regarding the team’s interest in keeping Amos for the 2023 season.

Per Huber, Amos intends to “see what’s available” in terms of finding one last big payday.

Amos is an unrestricted free agent after his contract voided last month. Because of prorated bonuses accelerating to 2023 when his contract voided, Amos is currently scheduled to count $7.95 million on the team’s salary cap as dead money regardless of whether or not he is on the roster. A re-signing would only add money to his cap hit for 2023.

However, retaining Amos – a team captain last season – would ensure the Packers have at least one starter in place at safety for next season.

A rock-solid player for three years after signing with the Packers in 2019, Amos took a step back in 2022, especially in coverage. He turns 30 years old in April.

At safety, Darnell Savage is expected to move into the slot and Rudy Ford and Dallin Leavitt are free agents.

Over the last four seasons in Green Bay, Amos has produced 362 tackles, seven interceptions, 30 pass breakups and 15 tackles for losses over 66 games.

Free agents can begin negotiating and agreeing to terms with other teams on Monday. Free agency officially begins on Wednesday afternoon.
