Green Bay Packers passing coordinator Jason Vrable — one of Matt LaFleur’s top offensive assistants on staff — will be in Mobile to be the offensive coordinator of the National Team at the Senior Bowl, the event announced Wednesday.
Vrable will coach under “head coach” Mike Kafka of the New York Giants on the National Team staff.
The Senior Bowl is using a “Coach Up” format that allows assistant coaches from across the NFL to take on elevated roles during the week of the event. Assistants are nominated by a team’s head coach or general manager. This year, Vrable was selected for the Packers.
General manager Brian Gutekunst has a long history of drafting players from the Senior Bowl, so having Vrable on staff should only increase the scouting profile the Packers have on many prospects scheduled to participate in Mobile.
The Senior Bowl will be played on Saturday, Feb. 1. There will be three days of practices — offering a terrific evaluation opportunity — before the game.
At least 100 players from the Senior Bowl have been drafted in each of the last four drafts, including a record 110 players last year. The Packers drafted an NFL-high eight players from the Senior Bowl in 2024, and a ninth (linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper) was invited to the event.
