Pacific Palisades resident Maryam Zar was in her backyard when she noticed the smell of burning eucalyptus. She quickly realized that a fire had broken out when she saw smoke rising nearby. Zar wasted no time and promptly called the fire department as the fire rapidly grew in size.
Feeling a sense of urgency, Zar made the decision to evacuate her family from their home. She described the experience as a mix of emotions, acknowledging the severity of the situation while focusing on the tasks at hand. Zar swiftly gathered essential items such as passports, valuables, pictures, chargers, phones, and laptops, preparing for the possibility that they might not return to their house.
With adrenaline pumping, Zar and her family left the area, witnessing open flames in their backyard and neighboring yards as they drove away. The situation became increasingly unsettling as embers landed on front yards, igniting fires in their path.
